Rabies kills 59,000 people per year and thousands of dogs. It tears families apart and turns innocent animals into enemies.
Now is the time to eliminate rabies for good.
The only way to eliminate a disease like rabies is with decisive, large-scale action.
Vaccination drives do exactly that. They are projects where a huge number of dogs are vaccinated in a rabies hotspot within a short time frame. These drives aim to vaccinate 70% of dogs in a set area to develop herd immunity and stop rabies in its tracks.
Vaccination drives take the fight to rabies.
These large-scale vaccination drives mean we can be fast paced, and attack rabies around the world, quickly reaching the areas where help is most needed. The success of the drive is then built upon, working with in country partners to maintain this success with long-term sustainable plans.
Since then vaccination drives have happened in Tanzania, Uganda and Sri Lanka, with Cambodia planned in the near future and further projects always being scoped out. The expansion of our vaccination work allows us to test out new methods and develop ideas which can then be implemented on a larger scale. You can read more about the approaches we've developed here.
Over 1.3 million dogs have been vaccinated against rabies since 2013, saving countless lives.
